Inner Mongolia University of Technology is a key applied research university in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, with engineering as its primary focus and a comprehensive talent cultivation system encompassing bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs. Established in 1951, the university was founded as the Inner Mongolia Institute of Technology in 1958 with support from Tsinghua University and other institutions, and was renamed Inner Mongolia University of Technology in 1993. Having secured the right to award doctoral degrees in 2003, the university further optimized its disciplinary structure in 2024, forming a "dual-coverage" framework. Specifically, doctoral programs now cover all engineering fields, while master's programs are offered across the university's 26 schools.
The university currently has four campuses: Xincheng, Jinchuan, Zhungeer, and Kangbashi, with over 29,000 students and 2,304 faculty and staff members. It offers 10 doctoral programs, 43 master's programs, 66 undergraduate programs, and hosts 3 postdoctoral research stations. Its disciplines in Engineering, Materials Science, and Chemistry have entered the top 1% globally in ESI rankings. The university has 6 national-level research platforms and 49 provincial-level platforms. Adhering to an open approach in education, the university actively engages in international exchanges and cooperation, having signed agreements and established substantive collaborations with 95 universities and research institutions in 23 countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, Belarus, Japan, and South Korea.
