Inner Mongolia University of Technology (IMUT), situated in Hohhot, the capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR) which is anorthern border area of China, is a multi-disciplinary university with a teachingfocus not only on engineering, but on natural science, liberal arts, economics, management, education and art as well. It was founded as Inner Mongolia Instituteof Technology in 1951, and renamed Inner Mongolia University of Technology(IMUT) in 1993. The University focuses on undergraduate education, withpostgraduate programs being an important part and is eligible to conferdoctoral degrees. Now course programs offered by IMUT include 70 bachelordegree programs, 3 first-level disciplines covering 13 second-level disciplineseligible for conferring doctoral degrees, 18 first-level disciplines covering 85second-level ones for master's degrees. IMUT has attracted a well-structuredand well-qualified staff of 2002 members, including 1430 full-time teachers, ofwhom, 162 are professors, 481 associate professors, 39 PhD program supervisors,489 master's degree program supervisors. Currently, 27000 full-time studentsare studying at the university.
IMUT offers a comprehensive groupof undergraduate and postgraduate programs in different disciplinesincluding engineering, sciences, liberal arts, economics, management and law. Nine specialties including chemical engineering and technology, processing engineering, solid mechanics, machine design, building and its automation, thermalenergy engineering, materials science, industrial catalysis, architecturaldesign and theory and business administration are named noted specialties atthe IMAR level. The key lab of wind and solar applications technologies was designatedby the Ministry of Education as one of the key laboratories jointly supportedby the Ministry and the Autonomous Region. The six regional key labs of industrialcatalysis, renewable energy, light metallic materials, electromechanics, materialformation and control engineering, green building appraisal have conductedquite a number of corporate R&D projects, thus making great contributionsto the new-type industrialization of the Region and promoting the social andeconomic development of IMAR.
IMUT insist on running theuniversity openly and attach importance to exchangingideas and cooperating with colleges and university at home and aboard. We have a long-terminter collegiate cooperation with many overseas universities of Mongolia, USA,UK, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Japan, Russia, Canada, Australia, NewZealand and Tajikistan. In 2003, IMUT became one of the universities whichcarry out the project of “Sino-US 1-2-1 Dual-DegreeProgram” in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 2005 IMUT was approved as oneof the universities that are qualified to receive international studentssponsored by the Inner Mongolia government scholarship program, and in 2008 bythe Ministry of Education as one of the universities that are qualified to receive international students sponsored by the Chinese government scholarship program.
In 2010 the School ofInternational Education of IMUT was founded to better take care of the needs ofthe international students, in terms of teaching affairs coordination, campuslife, Chinese language teaching and Chinese culture study. Currently there arearound 200 international students studying at IMUT for bachelor, master ordoctor degrees. IMUT attaches great importance to the quality of teaching,and provides superb teaching and livingconditions to our international students. IMUT engages a very efficient team tocater to the needs of international students and build up a good program ofteaching Chinese as a second language. The international student dormitory is abuilding converted from a two-star hotel, well furnished with in-room cable TV,telephone, bathroom, public kitchen and public laundry. With good study andliving conditions as well as good services, IMUT will provide the internationalstudents with the best study and living conditions and make their study andlife in China an enjoyable experience.
